Frequently Asked Questions
We want your adventure to be as hassle free as possible - if your questions are not answered here please feel free to give us a call.
How do I get the DVLA check code you require us to bring for all drivers?
We will require all drivers to provide evidence of their driving record, with regard to vehicles you can drive and penalty points or disqualifications.
You can create a licence ‘check code’ to share your driving record with us - and this will be valid for 21 days.
You’ll need:
- your driving licence number
- your National Insurance number
- the postcode on your driving licence
Enter these details at https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence and bring the code with you for us to check (please ensure it is within the 21 day expiry window)
Are you dog friendly?
Yes, we welcome dogs in all of our camper vans - providing dogs are not allowed on the seats at any time. There is a small surcharge of £25 (per hire, not per dog), towards additional cleaning time. Two dogs maximum, please.
If you're not a fan of dogs - don't worry, all of our vans are cleaned to a high standard after every hire so there should not be a hair in sight!
Can we leave our car with you?
You can leave one car free of charge, under cover, at our Tedburn St Mary base. This site is secure and locked each night so you can enjoy your adventure without worrying about your car's safety. If you need to leave more than one car with us, there is a nominal charge of £10 per week.
Are bedding and towels provided?
We don't include bedding or towels, however we do have them available for hire if you would like to borrow some.
What about non standard collection days?
Collection days are generally Fridays or Tuesdays. If, subject to agreement, we are able to offer you an unpublished Saturday or Sunday collection, an additional fee of £25 will be charged. If we have published Saturday or Sunday as a start date (owing to crossover with another hire), no extra fee is charged.
What's included in the hire price?
Insurance for one driver, secure parking, VAT, a gas bottle, breakdown cover, a full self catering inventory including power cables, a fair use mileage allowance of 1000 miles per week (pro rata for shorter hires, ie: 425 for a three day hire). The van is also provided fully fuelled, to be returned full.
Are you easy to get to?
We are only 10 minutes from the end of the M5 near Exeter, and just 5 minutes off the A30 (West) - so all destinations are readily accessible from our base via major routes.
How old do I need to be to hire a van?
You must be 25* or over, or under 80 to hire one of our campervans. You must have held a full licence for more than 2 years. (*Please note - you need to be aged 27 or over to drive the T-Line 785/740/590 or AutoRoller 707 motorhomes, having held a full licence for more than 5 years). Drivers over 79 years of age should call before booking for referral.
What if I want someone else to share the driving?
There is an additional charge of £7 per day to add another driver on to the insurance. This must be for the full hire period only - as we have to issue you with a cover note.
Do I need a special category on my driving licence?
All of our vans are under 3500kgs and can therefore be driven on standard full car licence (no C1 needed).
Can I hire a camper van for one night or day?
High summer bookings (July to August) are for one full week or more.
Short breaks are a minimum of 3 days, these are normally only available outside of these months, but will be released subject to availability in high summer on a last minute basis – keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter for the latest offers.
How far can we go?
All vans have a fair use mileage allowance of 1000 per week (425 for 3 days), thereafter 50p per mile. If you hire for 2 weeks, 2000 miles, 3 weeks 3000 miles……
Can we take the vans abroad?
Our vehicles may be taken to Europe, subject to a surcharge of £125 per week to cover extended insurance liability and enhanced Breakdown Cover. Usual mileage limits apply of 1000 miles per week (thereafter 50p per mile).
Can I get to you from the airport or station?
Exeter airport and Exeter St Davids railway station are reasonably close to us. Transfers at £50 return from the airport and £40 return from the railway station. Don't forget to add bedding and towels to your hire requirements!
What do I need to bring on the day?
Other than your personal effects, we require you to bring: Driving Licence for all drivers, and DVLA check code (see top of page). Two current forms of ID, with at least one showing your current address (ie: bank / credit card statement, utility bill, HMRC letter, council tax bill). These forms of ID must be no older than 90 days, please. Mobile phone bills are not accepted as ID. No ID = no hire, sorry!
What about damage deposits?
We run with an insurance excess of £1000. Minor damage will be charged at cost plus 10% (see out Terms for full details). We will need to hold a credit card number to cover this whilst you are away. You may reduce the excess to £350 (conditions apply) for a daily fee, however it may not be waived entirely with us. Should you wish to reduce your liability to zero, we'd recommend purchasing car hire insurance excess from a broker (ie: Questor Insurance (NB - this is a suggestion, not an endorsement)).
Please note - should you collide with an area of restricted height (vehicle height is marked in each van), or allow the van to be water damaged - damage will be charged in full, irrespective of the excess amount.
Conditions - We will not allow the CDE reducer if you have more than six current points on your licence, or more than one accident in the past three years.
