February is the month of love - do something adventurous this Valentine’s; hire a campervan! Enjoy a romantic, cosy weekend away with your loved one.
Days are staying lighter and even a touch warmer for longer, which means more time in the day for exploring the hidden gems of Devon.
Day 1: Ponies on Exmoor
Pick up your campervan in Exeter and drive North to Exmoor National Park. Share the experience of Exmoor which is well known for wild ponies roaming freely on the Moorland. Take a short (or long) romantic walk around the National Park, take in breath-taking views together and share a picnic lunch on the luscious green hills, be careful the ponies don’t pinch your food!
Exmoor is also home to many other animals, let us know what you find in the comments below!
Tarr Steps is a fun way to explore Exmoor National Park. There are gentle walks from the steps over the river down to the ancient clapper bridge- follow the orange way marks! The wooded valley of the River Barle is definitely worth a visit, the wildlife amongst the surrounding countryside is immense.
Romantic star gazing
For dinner, whip up a meal for two using your fully equipped kitchen in the campervan and drive to a spot on Exmoor’s Dark Sky Reserve! Nothing is more romantic than looking up at a clear night sky and gazing at the stars! Rediscover your sense of wonder together with food, stars and champagne. There’s a high chance you’ll see shooting stars!
Download a Dark Skies Pocket Guide from Exmoor’s NP Authority website.
Day 2: Destination sand and rockpools
Enjoy driving on the coastal roads from Exmoor National Park all the way down to the heart and soul of North Devon. The great thing about the beaches of North Devon is that they are all so close together! You could enjoy them all in a day (or two)!
Head to the coastal villages of Lynton and Lynmouth.
Lynmouth has a great beach where you can walk together hand in hand and even collect sea-glass! You can visit the water-powered railway, which provides scenic views over the Bristol Channel. Foodie couples, be sure that you’ll enjoy the many pubs and tea rooms set in lush scenery after your walk along the water’s edge.
Park up and watch the sunset over the ocean with champagne for two.
Hop in the camper and take a look at the map, in just under 40 minutes you can get as far as an award winning beach; Woolacombe beach! Get there in time for an intimate picnic on the beach as the sun sets over the ocean. Stay in the van if it’s windy; open the back doors, get under the covers and gaze at the sun over the ocean as it disappears into the horizon. Sunsets at this beach are full of romance and intimacy, so get the champagne out, wrap up warm and relax together.
Next to Woolacombe’s main beach is Combesgate. Above Combesgate Beach there is a secret bench with the best view of the ocean! Take a photo of you both sitting on the bench with your picnic or champagne; a chance to win free Extras on your next trip with us!
Day 3: Get up early for a romantic sunrise breakfast (with a hot drink) at Morte Point.
The early morning sun hits the rocks just after sunrise at Morte Point; you can look across to Lundy Island, Baggy Point and Woolacombe Bay. Morte Point is a National Trust area and has many stunning walking paths. With romance in the air, birds tweeting and ocean views all around, you can’t find anywhere like it! Morte Point is a great place to be together without the crowds; enjoy the coastal heathland with the dramatic scenery of cliffs, rocky headland and sandy bays! Keep a lookout for dolphins and seals!
